MARIAN MACGOWAN

Marian Macgowan produced the film SOUTH SOLITARY written and directed by Shirley Barrett, which opened the 2010 Sydney Film Festival and released Australia-wide in July. She also executive produced the documentary BOXING FOR PALM ISLAND which will air on the ABC in late 2010.

She executive produced the feature film BLESSED directed by Ana Kokkinos and starring Frances O’Conner and Miranda Otto which went into release in September 2009 and won Best Screenplay at San Sebastian and Best Film at Kosmorama & Giffoni Generator +16. In early 2008 she produced the feature film DEATH DEFYING ACTS, an Australian/UK co-production directed by Gillian Armstrong, and starring Guy Pearce and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Marian’s past films include LILIAN’S STORY, TWO HANDS, which won an AFI and Film Critic’s of Australia award for Best Film in 1999, and RAGE IN PLACID LAKE which was nominated for 4 AFI Awards in 2003.

As well as running her own company, renamed MACGOWAN FILMS in 2000 (previously established in 1986 as CML FILMS PTY LTD), Marian’s other roles have included the production and publishing of Australian film industry bible, THE PRODUCTION BOOK and Head of Producing at the Australian Film and Television School, where she subsequently worked as a consultant until mid 2008.  Prior to forming CML FILMS PTY LTD, Marian worked both in the UK and Australia as a commercials and documentary producer and has directed several short films.

MACGOWAN FILMS is currently developing a number of projects including an adaptation of Tony McNamara’s play THE GREAT for Gillian Armstrong, OCCHY on the rise and fall and rise of surfing legend Mark Occhilupo and a ten part television series COLD HARVEST.
